Carolyn and I (Santi) are currently semi/professional cross country skiers racing on the national circuit. Despite our athletic ambitions, we believe we have a calling to something more. Furthermore, we believe that it is possible to combine our own goals and training with fundraising efforts for a greater good. Because of this Carolyn and I will be forgoing the end of our competitive ski racing season and spring break this year to undertake this adventure and fund raising endeavor.
Beginning in the first week in March we are going to be rollerskiing across America (3,000 plus miles) in attempts to inspire giving to those who are desperately in need.
Even though competitive Nordic Racing requires a simple non luxurious lifestyle by US standards, it is important for us to understand how truly gifted and well off we are. We oftentimes have a difficult time understanding what true need, poverty, and starvation are. The closest many of us will come to being hungry is from simply missing a meal or two.
The knowledge of the fact that 36 US dollars can feed a child in an impoverished country for a year is very thought provoking.
The Goal:
The main goal of our athletic adventure is to inspire giving and fundraising on behalf of those desperately in need. We will be visiting as many churches, schools, and fundraising organizations as we can during our 3 month adventure in attempts to raise 36$ for every mile we rollerski, enough to feed approximately 3,000 children for a year.
Along the way we would like to inspire others to thoughtfully consider forgoing dining out or visiting the bar once this week and donating the money saved towards feeding someone desperately in need.
