Basa Fish Farming Project
The Desire to Help...
Once Jay Odell became aware of the critical needs of The Little Children Of Jesus orphanage for physically and developmentally impaired children, he felt compelled to do everything in his power to provide a lifetime source of food for these precious children and the community of Santo, Haiti; the new home of the orphanage.
Eliminate Malnourishment …
After reviewing several d different projects, Jay determined that establishing a Basa Farm for the children and the community was the most remarkable expedient answer. Basa is the newest and one of the most popular aquaculture food fish available worldwide. The nature of this fish allows for massive reproduction in areas where the need for food, especially protein is considerably deficient, as it is in Santo. The taste of the Basa fish has been compare to salmon and Alaska Pollack.
Develop Self-sustainment…
Not only will the farm be a lifetime source of food, it will be a source of income for the home and the community; allowing each to become self-sufficient. One male Basa fish can produce more than 300 thousand rapidly growing fingerlings in two months. The fishlings can grow to over 3 lbs. Each fishling will produce 5 to 10 thousand fish per harvest; an amazing accomplishment in the poorest country in the Western hemisphere. The children will never be hungry again.
We Need Your Support…
With your help the Basa Farm can become a reality. Join Jay today in his mission to provide food and an income for a lifetime to these powerless children of God.
