Yvonne Sinclair-Cadet
Born in Jamaica November 19, 1941, Yvonne Sinclair migrated to NY in her early 20's where she, raised five children and built a lucrative business in sales for 18 years. She was active in spearheading a yearly clothing and toy drive for the children of Jamaica and Haiti while residing in New York. In 1981, she moved her family to South Florida where she later opened yet another business, Boonoonoonoos Restaurant. While attending a fundraiser she met Father Houlong and became an avid supporter for Food For the Poor. Yvonne never forgot her country or her people and always gave of herself unselfishly, never tiring of helping others. Though actively involved in many organizations that help the disenfranchised, she was passionate about the work of FFTP. Please donate to this worthy project to keep up the tradition and the legacy of her love for others. We thank you for your support
The need:
Because of the overwhelming poverty permeating Jamaican society, many parents cannot afford to send their youngsters to school. An affordable answer for many impoverished families are Community schools. These are schools sponsored by Church and missionary groups. Unfortunately, they are scarce in number and their facilities are generally run-down or too small for the overwhelming number of children needing their help. An additional component lacking among Jamaican community schools is their inability to provide meals for students. Many impoverished children are sent to school without breakfast or lunch. Schools would like to be able to provide students with a hot, nutritious meal; however, most schools suffer from inadequate kitchen facilities, and proper space to serve meals. Therefore, if meals are served, students usually eat them in the classroom. However, the Jamaican government has recently implemented strict food preparation guidelines that greatly affect schools operating with deficient kitchen facilities. Meals are no longer allowed in the same area where students receive instruction.
The solution:
Your gift of any amount will help fund The Yvonne Sinclair-Cadet School Feeding Center, which will benefit countless disadvantaged children. This project will be constructed at a financially strapped rural community school in Jamaica and will provide, in some cases, the only meal a child will have that day.
Please help us to celebrate the life and legacy of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Thank you and may our Lord bless you as you have blessed the poor.
