They are in dire need of a fresh water supply….

When we looked at the pictures of Haiti and saw the dire circumstances, we were saddened. When we heard that millions of people do not have access to clean water and often only have access to water that is contaminated which makes them sick, we wanted to help. We realize how fortunate we are in the United States. Often, we take for granted how easy it is for us to obtain fresh water to drink. We consume so much!

We really are so fortunate here in the US. We have easy access to clean water! I have no problem drinking my 8 glasses of water a day, especially since I can carry some water bottles to work with me or I can stop off at the local gas station and purchase some.

People in developing countries don't have that luxury…

· Sometimes, well water isn't even available.
· Often, children are sent to walk several miles to the nearest well to bring back water for their families.
· Mothers have to give parasite-filled water to their children to try to quench their thirst.

We know that times are tough for many right now and many people have lost their jobs or fear they will. However, we are so blessed compared to other people! We still seem to find the money to go to Starbuck's for our mochas and McDonald's for our value meals. Can you imagine if everyone who reads this web page gave up a mocha or a value meal and contributed the money to building wells in these underprivileged nations?!

We believe once people understand the importance and the scarcity of clean water for developing countries, three things will happen:

1) They will discover the value of fresh water and conserve it whenever they can.
2) They will want to do whatever they can to financially support this project by adopting a well or piece of it.
3) They will realize how wonderful it feels to help bring a cup of fresh water to people who are dying without it.

It costs less than $5,500 to build a well that will provide clean water for hundreds or even thousands of thirsty people. Any contribution from you will help.

There are so many good charities out there to donate to… So, why give to Food For The Poor? It has the highest ranking for charities: four out of four stars. Also, what appealed to us most is that 96% of the money donated goes directly to the people they are trying to help! Only 4% goes to administrative costs.

On behalf of those who don't have access to clean water, thank you! May God bless what you are doing for the least of these, our brothers and sisters!
