If 3,000 friends each gave $1 we could build a house for a poor family
After visiting Food for the Poor in April for “Take Our Sons and Daughters to Work Day,” Andre, 12, and Valerie, 10, were amazed. The enthusiasm and kindness of the people working there had them telling their mother, "Mom you are so lucky! Everybody is so nice. We would love to work at a place like this, there’s so much positive energy.”
They were also impressed by the many things Food For The Poor does for people they don’t know. The children went online and read about the devastation in Haiti after the 2008 hurricanes and the more than 100,000 people left without homes.
When they saw that it costs only $3,000 to build a house with a latrine they both thought, “If we could help….” So, they created this site where all their friends, and friends of friends, can give so they can build an entire house with a latrine. Andre and Valerie started their donation page by giving up something they loved. They sacrificed Friday night pizza and donated $25.
Their short-term goal is to build one house for a poor family. “I wish I could help a little girl like me to have a better life, the chance to study, and achieve her dreams,” said Valerie.
One step at a time, one house at a time, one dollar from each friend. Andre and Valerie hope you can help them accomplish their goal.
