Help us build a school for Central Village - Jamaica
Shortly after our group arrived in Kingston, Jamaica we visited several outreach centers throughout the area. Elijah's Trail Training Center, a men's prison and Jerusalem Children's Home, were all very touching to say the least.
But the place most inspiring was when we reached Central Village the next day. Families actually living in little huts that were roughly put together with just about anything that they could find. Mostly material that had been blown from other places due to the Violent storms that are common to the island. Electricity and plumbing facilities were out of the question. Sleeping was confined to the dirt floor that quickly turned to mud after a heavy rain. The poverty was heartbreaking, but the people endured.
Being in their presence and talking with them at length allowed us the opportunity to realize that the grave shortage of schools was the major culprit behind such poverty. A lack of education breeds poverty and poverty breeds drugs and crime. We all agreed that going straight to the source of the problem would be to focus on raising enough money to build a school. Our vision and of course prayers are not only to raise the money but also to return to Jamaica and help with the building of the school.
