The Benito Pitito School Renovation
Founded in 1960, the Benito Pitito School, located in Managua, Nicaragua, provides a tuition-free education, including two meals a day to approximately 675 enrolled students. Most of the students, many from impoverished families, walk long distances to attend school here. Their parents work in meager-paying jobs and cannot afford transportation to school, let alone school tuition.
In an effort to discourage poor attendance and student dropout, the school’s meal incentive program provides students with breakfast and lunch. Currently, meals are prepared outside in an open pit, while others are prepared by parents volunteering at the home of the local priest and then delivered to the school where students eat in their classroom. A kitchen and dining area is needed in order to more efficiently operate the feeding program, and to offer the children a place to eat.
The preschool bathroom section of Benito Petito is in dire need of renovation. The school would like to demolish the old sanitation facility and replace it with a new unit.
The school’s grounds are made up of rough terrain, which is not conducive for athletic activities, which are an essential part of a child’s education. A sports recreation area would give the students a chance to play and exercise and participate in sporting activities.
Please help in funding this essential school enhancement construction project.
