Nicaragua, is the second poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Approximately 50% of the population lives in poverty and 19% lives in extreme poverty. Almost half of the population lacks access to safe water, illiteracy is high, and there is a whole generation that was unable to attend school or saw its education interrupted by war.
For impoverished families, education is the key to escaping generational poverty. Children from the Atho Nuevo Community are unable to attend school because the nearest school is too far away and parents are afraid to allow their children to travel the distance alone. The environmental conditions during the winter make daily travel outside the community almost impossible.
Students For The Poor
Students For The Poor is a unique student outreach effort initiated by students and developed by Food For The Poor, Inc. Students For The Poor is an organized outreach group on high school and college campuses throughout the United States, in which students take time from their busy lives to serve the poor in their local communities, the Caribbean, and Latin America.
Support the Students For The Poor High School Chapters of Palm Beach County as we raise funds to build a critically needed Food For The Poor school in Chinandega, Nicaragua to benefit the disadvantaged children of the Atho Nuevo Community. Help us provide them with the promise for a better future. Your tax-deductible donations can be made on this webpage.
